Position: Project Assistant and Communication Officer

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung African Migration Policy Center in Addis Ababa (FES AMPC; https://ampc.fes.de/)  invites adequately qualified and motivated applicants to apply for the position of a Project Assistant and Communication Officer.

About FES AMPC:

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is a non-profit German foundation funded by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and headquartered in Bonn and Berlin. FES is promoting the values of Social Democracy together with partners around the world. On the African continent, FES has been working for social justice, democracy, peace and international solidarity for over 40 years. It has encouraged and nurtured political exchange between Africa, Germany and Europe for many years, acting as partner to political parties, parliaments, trade unions, media, civil society groups and the interested public.

The FES African Migration Policy Center in Addis Ababa (FES AMPC) was established in 2019 as a regional office to promote migration policy debates within Africa as well as deepen the migration dialogue between Europe and Africa. It is further devoted to the study of international migration trends with particular emphasis on South-South migration and the migration-development nexus. Besides producing evidence-based, policy-relevant research, AMPC engages different stakeholders in all aspects of migration within Africa and beyond.

Main responsibilities and requirements:

  1. Event Organization:
    • Professional and timely planning, coordination and implementation of conferences, seminars, workshops, and delegation visits (incoming and outgoing).
    • Administrative support for team members to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
    • Communication and correspondence with participants and service providers.
    • Logistical handling of events (visas, flight tickets etc).
    • Management of service providers such as transport, hotels, catering, translation, photography, video recording, and live-streaming agencies.
  2. Communications Management:
    • Develop and execute FES’s communications strategy, ensuring the dissemination of project achievements to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Manage FES social media channels (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn) by drafting posts, coordinating with graphic designers, and strategizing to improve digital presence.
    • Edit, update, and manage the FES website and social media accounts using CMS systems.
  3. Publication and Content Support:
    • Support the editing, lay-outing, and printing of publications.
    • Collaborate with graphic designers and other service providers for the production of high-quality content.
  4. Procurement and Financial Responsibilities:
    • Handle procurement and partner or event-related services/materials, ensuring compliance with FES’s financial guidelines.
    • Manage the financial aspects of activities based on approved budgets.
  5. Networking and Relationship Management:
    • Build, maintain, and improve networks with service providers and partner organizations relevant to FES’s work.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for service providers, ensuring high-quality service delivery.

Qualifications required:

  • A university bachelor’s degree in management, event management, project management, communications, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in event management, seminar assistance, or similar roles. Experience in similar international organizations is an asset.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Amharic; knowledge of French or other languages is an asset.
  • Proven experience in communications, particularly with social media and CMS systems.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes and financial management according to organizational guidelines.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office; Typo3 or other CMS knowledge is advantageous.

Social, special and other skills:

  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with a professional demeanor.
  • Proven experience in event management, procurement, and office administration.
  • Experience in maintaining and editing websites and managing social media accounts for professional purposes.
  • Established networks with service providers relevant to FES’s operations.
  • High level of responsibility, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

We offer an interesting area of work, good team spirit, a competitive salary (13 months; negotiable based on experience and past work performance), a scheme for health care coverage and transport allowances. We offer a full-time work contract. A probation period of 2 months will apply according to Ethiopian Labour Law.

 

The location of the position is: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
